The Walking Dead Universe is About to Get A Whole Lot Bigger
With their flagship show still holding its own 10 years later, The Walking Dead universe is about to get a whole lot more crowded. The original source, the comic books, continue to churn away selling us deeper into the story. The Walking Dead is still going strong despite losing its core cast on AMC. Their spin-off show Fear the Walking Dead can be argued it’s just as good, if not better than the original on AMC. There’s a Walking Dead movie in the works starring original cast member Andrew Lincoln. Now, there’s even more news that a second spinoff show is coming.
“We’re not at a stage where we’ll be announcing its plans to premiere,” Carroll said. “But we have hired creative people that have pitched story outlines. We feel very good about the development of that series. We’re not in a position to talk about partnerships in terms of other territories or ancillary windows, other than that there’s a healthy appetite for it and we’ve had a number of conversations with a lot of players in the space.”

With a series low in regards to ratings; just how much longer can The Walking Dead survive let alone prop up spin-off shows? Or is this AMC’s way of transitioning away from the original cast while still attempting to keep the shared universe alive? The fan base is still loyal to the show, so much that AMC still has the ongoing talk show Talking Dead air right after each week’s episodes.
There’s plenty of questions to still be asked. Can a third series renew excitement in the show? If Fear the Walking Dead was set up as a prequel to the original show, when will the spin-off take place? Will it be in a different part of the country or will it center around the missing link between the two events? How much more can AMC do that it hasn’t already done with The Walking Dead?
