The original Top Gun from 1986 is on every movie-goers lists of must-see movies, an instant classic. Luckily for us as fans, it came out when it did. Hollywood wasn’t tapped out for ideas like they are now and original stories were left alone for 34 years before revisiting instead of forcing sequels and reboots down our throats at an alarming rate. At almost 4 decades later, it seems time to revisit the characters audiences grew to love. Top Gun was a movie loved by men for the cocky arrogance of the of the fighter pilots, but was also the movie they could sit down with a lady friend who’d fall for the love story.

Top Gun was the movie that instantly catapulted Tom Cruise from a “hey we kinda like this guy” kind of actor to the “I can’t wait to see his next role”. Word of mouth for the film quickly silenced the mixed reviews from critics proving not all first impressions are right. Top Gun would go on to gross $356 million dollars on a budget estimated around $15 million and in 2015 would be selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.

Top Gun: Maverick sees some of it’s original cast return as well as some fresh faces. One this is for sure, anyone who grew up in the ’80s will surely flood theaters when the film comes out in 2020. Tom Cruise will reprise his role and quite possibly hook a new era of fans to the old classic as the film will release some time in 2020.
