Everyone loves a good crime drama and Apple has landed theirs. Whether its TruTv or Netflix’s latest docu-series about a real life serial killer, people can’t get enough. From Making A Murder to Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile people just can’t get enough of the twist and turns of the murder mystery. Apple TV+ might not have a real life story of an actual killer, but their fictional Truth Be Told is just as intriguing as the rest. It doesn’t take a real story to captivate and early in the series the show nails it.

“The murder case that propelled a true-crime podcaster to nationwide fame comes back to haunt her when new evidence arises that suggests her original suspect may have been wrongfully convicted.”

One of the most important aspects of a crime drama is the audience’s connection to the characters. The draw of these shows is seeing if you can follow all the clues along the way and figure out the true killer by the end. Usually, just as you do, the plot twists away from you and you’re left wondering how you never saw it coming all along.

Truth Be Told offers the viewer plenty of cues along the way to keep them guess. The theories and character connections in the first three episodes have obviously pushed the narrative of an innocent man who was sent to prison for a crime he didn’t comment. They’ve even gone as far as to push the obvious culprit early on who might have an assist in the cover up.

The only problem with Truth Be Told is longevity. While the show has put out an interesting enough story so far, the real question is how long can it last? Will it be a limited series run done after one season? Will it be a long lasting show that keeps us guessing for years? Probably closer to the latter between not dragging the truth for too long and coming up with a consistently unique twists the show might not go the distance.

While there’s enough to make it through the season, there’s an average representation at best. Luckily for the audience there’s only three episodes so far so there’s plenty of time to make up ground.

Truth Be Told releases new episodes each Friday on Apple TV+.
