Unhinged Is A Thrill Ride From Start To Finish

It’s been a rough year for the cinema experience. One film that has taken to the theaters post-covid is Unhinged. The Russell Crowe thriller isn’t to be taken lightly. This is a tense, suspenseful picture that will leave you on the edge of your seat.

I’ve not felt this tense watching a film since Uncut Gems. I’ve seen well over 100 films since that point. You’ll feel a bit uneasy during this picture.

Unhinged is far from perfect (especially if you don’t like the feeling of suspense). There are things that could be changed, yet, there are aspects of the film that really hit.

What you’ll notice first about the film is Crowe. He’s been the same actor in quite a few of his films (or it certainly seems this way). There weren’t really any career-defining moments here, but this performance just worked for him. It wasn’t a Beautiful Mind or Gladiator acting job, however, he worked this role like RuPaul on the runway.

One major issue the film has, it didn’t feel real. Some parts just didn’t make sense. Without going too much into detail, there’s a scene in a diner that feels a bit unrealistic. A lot of moments just make you scratch your head, thinking, “how did he get away with this?” There were numerous instances of that in Unhinged. At the end of the day, this is just a movie and there needs to be something to build off of, but a bit more realism would have been nice.

There were some positive takeaways from Unhinged. This is an amazing popcorn flick. Take away the unrealistic scenes and look at this film as a whole. It’s pretty entertaining. Again, very tense scenes and pacing. You really get a bit uneasy watching this (which for some might be a negative). In my opinion, that’s exactly what a film should be. You need to feel that connection to a movie when watching.

The film is relatively easy to follow. Pretty basic plot, and you won’t leave the theater second guessing yourself. You’ll understand what’s going on. And for a time that Americans are easing themselves back to normalcy at the cinema, you can’t ask for much more.

I’d recommend Unhinged to anyone that’s looking to get away from the stresses of the new normal. It’s a movie that, while nerve-wrecking, proves to be a great escape for 90 minutes. If you love Russell Crowe, you’ll enjoy this film that much more. And the best part, the film should be on demand relatively soon. That’s good for those who didn’t have the theater experience available to them when the film was released.
