US Doesn’t Have The Same Effect As Jordan Peele’s Other Film, Get Out

Us

Jordan Peele is a master of his craft. With that being said, US didn’t have the same effect as Get Out. The film was well done, there were just some elements and details that didn’t work. On the contrary, some aspects of the film worked really well. Is this a movie you need to rush out and see?

Everyone is talking about the ending to US. That seems to be the big draw to the film. I’d say the last 20 minutes are the best part of this movie. Everything hits you so fast, and it all comes together. It can be a bit confusing at this point, so it’s best to pay close attention.

The final scene is one that many are talking about. Although, it’s somewhat predictable. That was my biggest gripe with this. So many talked about it, and I got really anxious to see, but I called the end scene 45 minutes before the film ended. It’s not that it was bad, just a bit of a letdown for me to be right.

I won’t give too much away about the movie. There are a lot of religious references in US. Jeremiah 11:11 is featured quite a lot. I didn’t know the meaning of that quote, so I looked it up. While I’m not a religious person, this quote kind of summed up what I thought the meaning of the movie was.

There were also a lot of hidden meanings in certain cases during the film. The scissors carry a rather interesting meaning, one that required a lot of thought by me. It wasn’t until well after the film was over that it dawned on me.

The issue with US, you’ll need to watch again to pick up on the little things of the movie. There’s a lot to take in during the 2 hours of the film. I’ve only seen the movie once. I think I have a grasp on the meaning and story, but, thinking about it, there’s a lot I’m still questioning.

Meaning and ending aside, it was the music which was the star of the show. The instrumental/gothic version of “I got 5 on it” can be seen in the trailer. The use of it in the film is beyond well done. Also, the dark orchestral score during some of the scenes really matched helped move the film along. As odd as it is to say, the music was the best part of US.

I’d be surprised if US didn’t get nominated for an Oscar. Jordan Peele is almost a lock for best original screenplay. The film, like Get Out, will have a lot of appeal to the voters, because of its meaning. Lupita Nyong’o will follow in the footsteps of Get Out actor, Daniel Kaluuya, and get a acting nomination.

If you liked Get Out, you’ll love US. I thought Get Out was a better film. Jordan Peele is a master of his craft. You really can’t do wrong with either. Is US worth the trip to the cinema? Yes. Just be aware you might need to see it again.
