Was Apple’s iPhone Delayed by More Than the Pandemic?
With their latest keynote, Apple announced their next product line the same way they have for many years. This time unfortunately for iFans, the yearly iPhone announcement was left out. While many people assume that the pandemic put the release on delay, was it a two-fold decision.
While Apple usually uses September to push the latest iPhone, rumors have swirled as of late that they could be working on a whole new line of products. Their usual keynote is typically about an hour and a half up to two hours. They announce everything from new iPads, iPhones, and the Apple Watch. However, if they are planning a new product line or two that would push their announcements well over 2 or 3 hours.
More Apple: Will iOS 14 Be the Much Needed Change For iPhone?
Imagine if Apple is focusing on their rumored AirTags, a product that will rival Tile trackers for locating household items. If Apple is truly working on over-ear headphones much like their Beats line but with their own brand, they’ll need time to explain how they’re different from their already owned Beats brand. Rumors keep swirling over a smaller and more affordable HomePod being pushed for the masses. So many rumors are out there, including the “Apple Glass”.
While the iPhone will be the focus, there’s no way they’re going to announce the phone and nothing more. There’s a reason they’re separating the event into two announcements. Even after the pandemic returns the world to normal, could this lead to a dual announcement weekend similar to a comic-con or E3. Clearly they have the fan base to offer an event based announcement going forward so maybe.
So now we have to wonder which product will be paired with the iPhone. Apple has always had focus on their flagship software iTunes. There’s a good chance that the pairing could be in the form of new AirPods, HomePod, and the over-the-ear headphones. Music has been what has driven their handheld product lines over the years. Between the iPods and iPhones, there’s always been a connection to music.
There’s almost a guarantee they’ll announce the what is being dubbed “AirTags” for now, a working title by most sites pushing these rumors. However, many predicted their watch line to be called iWatch the names aren’t always a given. If they do, it’ll break form the Music theme, but still fit into their handheld line.
Whatever the case may be, Apple will surely have to reconfigure their fall announcement going forward. They’re branching out to so many avenues and product lines, a post pandemic world might need to be more than one day. With phones, tablets, wearables, and now subscription services, they’ll have their hands full beyond 2020.
