Watchmen (2019) Trailer: Can it be HBO’s Newest Gem?
Finally, we have a date for HBO’s Watchmen. Oh, and a trailer which looks badass. It seems like forever since the series was announced to air on HBO and with Game of Thrones wrapping up, Westworld being hit or miss, and the GoT prequel too far down the road HBO needs their next big thing. Sure they have plenty of good content but the next big cultural show is waiting to be unearthed. Can Watchmen be that show? It has all the makings.
Watchmen takes place in an alternative, contemporary reality in the United States, in which masked vigilantes became outlawed due to their violent methods. Despite this, some gather around in order to start a revolution while others are going out to stop it before it is too late, as a greatly wide question levitates above them all; who watches the Watchmen? It also acts as a sequel to the original comic
Wikipedia
Originally written as a 12 issue comic by Alan Moore and eventually becoming a graphic novel, Watchmen is recognized by Time Magazine in their 2005 best 100 English Language novels from 1923 to present. Published under DC comics, the characters were locked away and unused from 1987 until 2009 when Warner Bros released a movie adaption that was met with mixed reviews. More recently, tying into the current DC comic world, a sequel to the original novel Doomsday Clock is being written by DC staple Geoff Johns and wraps up the final two issues soon.
Plenty of big names attached to the television property as well. Along with airing on HBO Watchmen stars Jeremy Irons, Regina King, and directed by Damon Lindelof who knows a thing or two about hit tv shows.
Cavemen Radio Show couldn’t be more excited for the next iteration in the Watchmen world. From the panel at Comic Con a few years back to announce Doomsday Clock, to the announcement of the tv series on HBO the hype train has been rolling along and we cannot wait.
