We’ve Got Activity From Kings Dominion At The Former Volcano Site

King's Dominion

When Kings Dominion closed Volcano: The. Blast Coaster for good, the coaster world was already thinking about the future of the site. While KD has already disassembled the coaster and mountain that housed it, the park might already be in the later stages of development for something new.

A sign went up across some construction walls on the former site of Volcano. It read the following,

“Expeditions on the horizon”

The picture featured a collection of safari animals such as Rhinos and birds. By looking at this, one can assume any new project will be African safari themed. That’s fitting, as the location of Volcano was set to that exact theme.

What are they doing with the site?

One thing we do know, it’s not going to be an RMC. With Twisted Timbers just debuting last year, the chances Kings Dominion doubles up on another RMC are slim. There’s the chance for a single-rail Raptor or T-Rex, but don’t get your hopes up.

What does Kings Dominion need? A flying coaster or wing coaster could be in the cards.

Cedar Fair doesn’t have any flyers in the company aside from the Vekoma Flying Dutchman model, Nighthawk, at Carowinds. These are some of the more uncomfortable coasters in the world. Adding a B&M flyer would be a first for the chain, and obviously a bit addition for KD. It can also be bird themed to keep up with the African/safari vibe of the area.

The bird theme can also apply to a wing coaster as well. Cedar Point features the only wing coaster of the Cedar Fair chain. While a wing isn’t as intense as a flyer, enthisuats will eat this one up. Wings are some of the best coasters, mostly due to their near-miss elements.

Could KD not be getting a coaster at all? Could we be seeing a dark ride? A lot of parks in the Cedar Fair chain are hurting for quality dark rides. Kings Dominion does have a Boo Blasters, although, a properly themed and non-interactive dark ride would really set this park apart. It can be themed to Safari animals.

What’s amazing is how Kings Dominion has already put a plan in motion to build a new coaster. It’s been less than a few months, and usually these coasters and rides talk a lot more planning to come into fruition. It’s apparent the park was prepared for a Volcano closing.

We can expect a new attraction at Kings Dominion in 2020. Nobody outside of park officials knows what’s being built. There’s already some activity at the former volcano site. The entire area has been gutted, so whatever is being constructed is getting attention. .

Whatever Kings Dominion decides to build, it’s going to be a tough task to upend Volcano in most guests eyes. Cedar Fair and KD will continue to impress guests. There are “Expeditions on the Horizon”, and we’ll need to wait just a bit longer to find out what they are.
