What Cedar Fair Park Is Getting a New Coaster In 2020?

Cedar Fair Park

Who’s the next Cedar Fair park to get a new coaster? We’ll get a few in 2019, as Copperhead Strike opens at Carowinds and Yukon Striker debuts at Canada’s Wonderland. The question is, “what are we getting for 2020?”

Cedar Point is starting its 150th anniversary celebration. Seeing as Cedar Fair pumps money into the park on a regular basis, the outlook for a new coaster is good. Many believe they would get a GCI Woodie or Polar-coaster (500 feet). Land clearing has begun for something, we just don’t know for what.

The most likely spot for a new coaster is Kings Island. The removal of Firehawk pretty much assures us of something new. The talk has been a giga-coaster. That seems to be the odds on favorite at this point. Kings Island is one of Cedar Fair’s marquee parks. They’ll invest a lot to make this one of the best in the world.

It’s unlikely Cedar Point and Kings Island both get new coasters in 2020. Expect Cedar Point to develop a boardwalk/pier for their 150th. They’ll get a massive coaster in 2021. Kings Island will get the big new attraction in 2020.

That’s not all Cedar Fair will give out, though. Expect one of their lesser parks to get something new. The contenders are Dorney Park, Worlds of Fun, California Great America, and Valleyfair (Michigan’s Adventure will never receive anything more than a hand me down coaster.)

Dorney Park hasn’t received a lot of love. They haven’t had a new coaster since Possessed in 2008. A lot of rumors circulated that Dorney was to receive a GCI woodie in 2019. They aren’t getting that this year, but, 2020 might be their time.

Expect Dorney Park to be a major player next year in the 2020 coaster battle, especially with Pennsylvania neighbor, Hersheypark, building a hyper-coaster.

World’s of Fun and Valleyfair probably have nothing coming in 2020. There’s been no indication of a new coaster. The same can be said for California Great America, who were supposed to be receiving a giga. That doesn’t seem to be in the long-term plans. They did just get Railblazer, the RMC Raptor.

We don’t know what Cedar Fair has in store for us in 2020. Kings Island will get their giga, Cedar Point will start the process of building a new coaster, Dorney will get a GCI. Those seem to be the only near guarantees at this point.(Dorney’s GCI is still up in the air.) We’ll see how 2020 shapes up. First, let’s enjoy the new coasters Cedar Fair has for 2019.
