What If Six Flags Bought Cedar Fair?
What would have happened if Six Flags bought Cedar Fair? Would the quality of parks such as Cedar Point and Knotts go down? How would the entire landscape of the theme park world have changed? One thing is for sure, this could have been a bad situation.
Cedar Fair is the better of the two chains. Their parks (for the most part) are much more maintained. The operations run a lot smoother. Rides aren’t constantly down or running one train. The theming and food are top notch. Six Flags would cause these strengths to become weaknesses.
We can’t expect Six Flags to be on top of their game. Instead of spending money on fixing the issues in their current parks, they’d rather spend the money to buy more parks. That seems a bit backwards. You’d expect them to have the current parks at top-notch performance before investing in new properties.
This buying up as many parks as you can strategy doesn’t work. There’s so much work to he done at just about every Six Flags park. Not to mention they’d have numerous parks within hours of others. All Six Flags wound do is bury the Cedar Fair chain parks, and dig the current Six Flags properties into a bigger hole.
We’d also be saying goodbye to Peanuts. The loveable Charles M. Schulz classic characters would be no more. Nothing against the Looney Tunes and DC Comics, there is just something special about incorporating Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Linus, and the whole gang. It feels like more of a kid-friendly property.
Issues aside, there would be a positive to a Six Flags overhaul. One thing the chain does right, giving parks new attractions every year. Cedar Fair can sometimes neglect their parks. It doesn’t matter how busy the parks get, there’s a new attraction every season from Six Flags. In all honesty, this is probably the only good thing to come from a Six Flags buyout.
As the dust settles on this deal, what’s the future for Six Flags and Cedar Fair? Six Flags will continue to look to add parks to their repitior, probably still neglecting older parks in the process. Cedar Fair, who wasn’t expecting to be selling, will now continue with their daily operation. Although, you have to wonder what would happen if another buyer came calling.
A lot of theme park enthusiasts would be devastated to learn the news of Six Flags buying Cedar Fair. It’s not going to happen, although the idea of it is enough to strike fear into the hearts of any Cedar Fair fanboy. Actually, this would strike fear into the hearts of anyone.
