What We Want Out of the PlayStation 5 Reveal
Despite the cancelation of the PlayStation event, the new console is set to still launch this holiday season. In an attempt not to distract from the social movements happening all over the world, Sony decided that postponing the event was the best decision.
Going forward, the announcement will only be a matter of time. Whether it’s the new console or just announcing their exclusive content set to release, we can’t wait for the next round in the console wars.
With plenty of great games throughout history, we’re hoping to see the launch or relaunch of a few:
Final Fantasy
With 15 games in the franchise so far, some with sequels and spinoffs, Final Fantasy has been going strong for decades. With the success of Final Fantasy VII remake, it’s only a matter of time before they go back for the hits along the way. Of course, there’s the continuation of VII’s story, but could that success lead to a Final Fantasy X remake?
More Gaming: Is Mortal Kombat 11 Their Best Fighter Yet?
Not only is there a chance for more remakes, but there’s also a fair chance they’ll announce the next title in the series. Final Fantasy won’t just stop at FFXV, it’s only a matter of time before we get Final Fantasy XVI.
God Of War .. um 2?
Not exactly sure how they’re going to name the God of War franchise going forward. God of War has already had sequels along the way and they’ve gone back to rename. However, if they’re sticking to continuity it wouldn’t be wise to name it GoW 2.
With where the soft reboot left off, there’s plenty of stories left for Kratos to take on the Norse Gods. We didn’t even get to see Thor, so there’s a good chance the follow up will center around the God of Thunder.
Midnight Club
This is the least likely game we expect a sequel for, but can’t help but hope. Rockstar Games has been firmly cemented in their Grand Theft Auto franchises. However, they did go back and take on Red Dead Redemption so there’s a slight glimmer of hope.
Midnight Club was their answer to Need For Speed. With the success of both GTA and RDR, nothing would be more fun if they reinvented their racing games. Midnight Club would be another success in a cross between a strong campaign and online play. With great soundtracks and the ability to race pretty much anything, its time to bring back this game.
Marvel’s Spider-Man
Sony has always had great luck with their Spider-man games. Owning the rights to the movies as well as the exclusives for gaming a sequel is on the way. The movies have been huge hits. Unfortunately for gamers, the PlayStation alternative has zero ties to the movies.
Still, the latest in the game franchise, Spider-man was a hit among fans. While they say solo campaigns are dead, God of War and Spider-man are two of the franchises who have proven those people wrong.
Sony would be wise to balance its announcement event with both the console reveal and games. There’s almost little to no hype surrounding the PlayStation 5, while Xbox has been hitting the ground running. Time for Sony to let the cat out of the bag and fire all at once. If not, PlayStation will quickly fade into the background.
