Which is More Likely – An Undefeated Steelers or Winless Jets?

Steelers vs Jets

When it comes to today’s NFL, going winless is getting easier, and going undefeated is getting tougher. Even if you make it through a regular season, the caliber of playoff teams are on another level. So far this season two teams stand out, both for opposing reasons. The Steelers are undefeated, the Jets are winless. Looking at the rest of the season, will the Jets get their first win before the Steelers get their first loss?

First, let’s examine the New York Jets. They have shown little to no upside this season and we have to wonder if Sam Darnold is going to get back to 100% healthy this season. If he does will it be enough to lift the Jets to a win? Right now, Joe Flacco is playing at a level that would only be mirrored by Darnold so that’ll more than likely be a push.

They’ll face the Dolphins, Raiders, Seahawks, Rams, Browns, and Pats. Out of those 6 teams, only one has a losing record, their division rival Pats. None of the games look winnable on paper but the Dolphins struggled against the Broncos and the Patriots are inconsistent at best.

The Pittsburgh Steelers, on the other hand, have had a pretty solid showing this year but have also had their stumbles. They could’ve easily lost to the Cowboys and Ravens but managed to pull off wins. Pitt still has divisional games against the 7-3 Cleveland Browns and the 6-4 Baltimore Ravens. It’s 100% possible that all three teams could wiggle into a playoff spot. Then of course there’s the challenge of beating the Colts and Bills both of which are 7-3.

Between the two regular-season matchups and facing at least one of them in a playoff game and there’s a big hurdle. Beating a team twice in a season is a challenge alone, but beating them three times is close to unheard of. Right now they’re 10-0 for the first time in franchise history. Throw in the colder weather games which cost late-season injuries, and the fact they’ll still have to go through the Colts again, the Bills again, and one of their division rivals, their path to 19-0 will take resiliency.

If we had to choose, however, it’s still far more likely that the Jets win a game than the Steelers go undefeated. Of course, these days the Jets might not win and the Steelers could still lose which is the obvious scenario. Can either team pull off what seems like a miracle?
