Who’s Going To Be The Zion Williamson Of 2020 In College Basketball

College basketball

Who’s the next Zion Williamson? There are a few collegiate freshman out there who can challenge for the number 1 pick at the NBA Draft. While none have the hype of Zion, some may be just as good in their lone season at the college ranks. And while this class may not be as strong as last years in terms of top NBA talent, don’t count out the incoming 2019 class.

James Wiseman, Memphis-
The most likely number 1 pick of the NBA Draft is James Wiseman. The 7’1 big man will play his college ball for Penny Hardaway at Memphis. He’s the jewel of Hardaway’s top overall recruiting class. While Wiseman has the tools to be number 1, there are questions surrounding his offensive game. Still, a player of his size and skill will be heavily favored as the top pick.

Cole Anthony, North Carolina-
The son of former college great and college basketball analyst, Greg Anthony, Cole Anthony might be the best PG in the college basketball this season. He’s the catalyst for all of the hype in Tar Heel nation. The 6’3 guard was named the MVP of the McDonald’s All-American Game and the Co-MVP of the Jordan Brand Classic.

Isaiah Stewart, Washington-
Stewart will be the most dominant freshman big man in the country. At 6’9 and 240 lbs, he’s going to be a lot to handle. The Upstate New York native is traveling cross country to play at Washington for what will likely be his only year of collegiate ball. During his final year of high school ball in Indiana, Stewart averaged 18.1 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks. He led his team to a 30-1 record.

There are quite a few other notable freshman that could be selected with the top pick. Names such as, Anthony Edwards(Georgia), Tyrese Maxey (Kentucky), Vernon Carey (Duke), all have the potential to be number 1. However, as it stands now, Wiseman, Anthony, and Stewart are the three most likely candidates.

As mentioned previously, none of these players are on the level of Zion Williamson. There’s not a guaranteed top overall pick. While these guys are going to be good, they won’t transcend the game. A lot depends on who gets the top overall pick as to which player gets selected first.

The trio of Wiseman, Anthony, and Stewart will more than likely be the three best freshman in the country this season. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, one of these three will be the top pick. One thing is for certain, this is going to be a fun year of college basketball.
