Why Jada Pinkett-Smith Is The True Villain Here
Can you have a healthy relationship in Hollywood? For 25 years, fans of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith looked to them as the epitome of what a black relationship could and should be in the land of the weird. However, there were rumors that their union was not as cut and dry as some of us made it out to be.
Two weeks ago, entertainer August Alsina spoke out about his relationship with Jada. He would go onto say that he did fall in love with her and that Will gave his blessing for the affair.
I actually sat down with Will and had a conversation … He gave me his blessing,” he said. “And I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life, and I truly and really, really, deeply loved and have a ton of love for her (Jada). I devoted myself to it. I gave my full self to it. So much so that I can die right now, and be OK knowing that I fully gave myself to somebody … Some people never get that in this lifetime.
It took a while for the Smith’s to respond but when they did, it made the situation worse.
According to Will and Jada, the relationship occurred while the two were on a break. Even if that is indeed true, there is a deeper issue here at play. Jada is 20 years older than August. And, according to Jada herself on The Red Table Talk, she and Will both said that August was broken and in need of healing. So, what that means is that Jada took advantage of this young man in his most delicate state.
That’s important to consider because if Will had done this to a woman 20 years younger than her, people would be calling for his head. August has endured heavy heartache throughout his life. He was also deep in depression and a heavy drug user when he met the Smith’s. And Jada has stated that her initial intentions were to heal the young man and help get his mind and body right.
During their “Entanglement”, Jada realized that she wanted to make her relationship work with Will. She would go on to say that August cut the relationship off and ceased communication. Now, by doing this, maybe Jada did not realize the destruction that she left behind. As an adult in this business and with the power she has, did she not know that this young man would catch feelings for her? Did she forget that dealing with a young man going through a serious bout of depression and drugs would not have major consequences?
August blasting her to the world was his way of dealing with his pain. But if Jada was honest with their relationship, she should have known this. If you’re helping to heal someone, and that person has been around you and your family, you should be able to predict their movements. She didn’t care. For her, it was about sex and wanting to “feel good” as she stated.
The rumors of her and Will being involved in an “open relationship” is not the issue. What is the painful issue is during that Red Table Talk, Jada had the chance to really set the record straight. The word “Entanglement” means nothing but a relationship. She’s not at fault for exploring her options. What she’s at fault for is not caring for the sanity of the person she says she was trying to heal.
The Red Table Talk is suppose to be a place where the truth is revealed and where emotions can be expressed. What she and Will did came across as a table read for a script for a new movie. Everything was timed just perfectly including the ill-advised jokes. Were they laughing at the events or the person who is hurt?
I expected more from Jada Pinkett-Smith. I expected an apology. Not to Will or the people watching but to August Alsina himself. She was wrong in the whole process. She used her power and influence and took advantage of a kid. How is that something to applaud and how is “Entanglement” now a word to be used so lightly?
