Why The Hate For One Of The Most Beloved Coasters At Cedar Point?

Millennium Force

Some coasters are a sticking point to enthusiasts. Millennium Force is one of those that you either love or hate. For most of the general public and casual coaster fan, Millie, as it’s called by the Cedar Point faithful, is one of the best coasters in the world. The hardcore coaster fan will tell you it’s overrated. Why the hate on one of the theme/amusement park world’s greatest attractions?

Millenium Force was the first giga-coaster. It has been a staple at Cedar Point since 2000. The coaster was truly ahead of its time. However, as the rides get more advanced, many have come to despise Millenium. A lot claim it to be “Millenium Forceless.”

An issue that gets a lot of enthusiasts is the lack of force on Millie. The coaster, which has been overshadowed by other giga’s, doesn’t stack up against Fury 325, Leviathan, and Intimidator 305 ( the three other giga-coaster’s). While it’s probably the least forceful of the four, there are a lot of redeeming qualities about Millennium Force that make it stand out.

One of the things you can’t take away from Millie is the incredible scenic views you get going up the lift hill. Cedar Point is on a peninsula. As you go up, the views of water surround you. If you look hard enough at the very top of the lift, you can see Canada in the distance. It’s truly a breathtaking coaster to ride.

There’s nothing like an original. While Millennium Force has been replaced as the World’s best Steel Coaster, Millie won the Golden Ticket Award for Best Steel Coaster 10 times, and, as of 2018, has never ranked lower than second place. It’s just so puzzling as to why this coaster is such a mixed bag with enthusiasts.

Honestly, it just feels like the hardcore coaster enthusiasts are looking for a reason to bash Cedar Point fanboys. A lot claim this to be the best coaster in the world. Considering there’s a vast majority of those who hate Millie, it feels like the coaster is more despised than loved.

In reality, these haters flock to Cedar Point every year or few years to ride Millennium Force. You really can’t win among opinionated coaster fanatics. There will never be a consensus among the enthusiasts when it comes to Millie. Most will love it, but a small number will despise it. Unfortunately, that small number is a very vocal group. It’s a real shame, as MF is one of the world’s best coasters.
