Why The Los Angeles Lakers Should Consider Signing DeAndre Jordan
The issue here is that the Los Angeles Lakers may have their attention elsewhere and may let the defensive center escape their clutches. If the Lakers do not sign Brook Lopez (why should they), then they must find a player able to provide rebounding and a defensive presence in the middle. Adding Jordan will allow the Lakers’ wing players to take more risk on the defensive end. For his career, Jordan has averaged 9.4 points, 1.7 blocks, and 10.7 rebounds while shooting 67 percent from the floor.
Jordan has spent a large chunk of his career with Blake Griffin and Chris Paul which has resulted in him taking only seven shots per game. With the Lakers, Jordan will get more attempts with Lonzo Ball and Kyle Kuzma not as high of volume scorers as Paul and Griffin. This will allow Jordan to become a vital part of the offense.
DeAndre Jordan Will Change The Defense Of The Lakers
In 2017, the Lakers ranked 25th in points allowed, 26th in blocks, and 24th in rebounding. While the thought of adding LeBron James and Paul George is enticing for ticket sales, the Lakers must begin to think long-term and winning. But if the Lakers were to go after Jordan, they will do so knowing that they will end any chance of a George and LeBron pairing in the Purple & Gold.
According to Spotrac, Jordan has a $24 million player option he can exercise this offseason and if the Los Angeles Lakers are willing to spend that, then why not build a foundation on defense?
