Will Season 2 of The Mandalorian Live Up To Season 1?

Star Wars The Mandalorian

The Mandalorian was the surprise launch of the Disney+ streaming app. Yes, everyone knew it was coming but no one knew just how good it would be. After the mixed bag regarding the newest trilogy, expectations weren’t as high as hopes. However, right from the start, The Mandalorian took us right back to the glory days of Star Wars.

With season two finally getting a long-awaited release date the internet is abuzz with excitement. There’s a ton to dive in to, but the real question is can season two live up to the hype?

Per the usual, here’s your obligatory warning to stop reading here if you have yet to watch season 1.

First, the biggest question will be just how much will they reveal about “the child”, or as everyone has called him Baby Yoda? His early reveal and intrigue drove the majority of the first season. Between looking like Yoda, being able to use the force, and calling it “the child” is the only information we’ve been given. Most of it has been guesswork so far.

Speaking of Baby Yoda, what will the relationship between him and the Mandalorian be in season two. Throughout season 1, there was the back and forth between the decision to get paid for a bounty and to protect the child who saved his life. While Mandalorians do have their code, things can get a little foggy, after all, they are bounty hunters. How long before they break up this dynamic duo and will it end amicably?

What would a bounty hunter need with a force wielding child? How much further into their story are the two connected and if it isn’t going to last the entirety of the show, will the child’s end fulfill enough of the story? It’s called The Mandalorian, not the Mandalorian and Friends. But if the story arc ends say mid-season 2, will the writers have a strong enough story to carry Mando through multiple seasons post-Baby Yoda?

Lastly, and most importantly, season one bounced around who the main villain was until the true villain, Moff Gideon was revealed. What are his plans for the child, how will he thwart the plans of the Mandalorian, and was that a darksaber? Clearly, he has ties to the Mandalorians and it will be very interesting to see where it leads.

The Mandalorian took Star Wars back to the early days of excitement that some have been missing since the days of the original trilogy. Will they step it up in season two or will the hope fade. Season 2 debuts on October 30th and at least now we’ll have something to look forward to in 2020.
