Will The One And Done Be Enough For Marvel
When it comes to streaming services, Disney+ hit the ground running since its launch. One of the major upsides of the streaming giant is having enough franchises to keep audiences interested. With the MCU dominating the box office, it was only a matter of time before they exploited it for the streaming service. The real question is, can they find a Marvel show to last longer than one season?
So far, we’ve seen the success of Marvel/Disney+ shows. WandaVision came with a good mix of quirky and intrigue. Now, Falcon and the Winter Soldier is giving us the suspense that fans enjoy wrapping up with the finale next Friday.
But as of right now, there are no plans to bring those shows back for a second season. How long can they maintain their streaming subscribers when they run out of shows to bring in for a season?
More Entertainment: Is Star Wars Exactly What Disney+ Needed
Disney has already axed the majority of their Marvel television content cutting all their Netflix shows like Daredevil and The Punisher. They canceled their network television shows as well such as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and Cloak & Dagger. They even canceled their own streaming show The Runaways that aired on Hulu. So what comes next? How do they keep fans interested past these one-and-done shows or will those be all we get?
Take Star Wars for instance. They have the entire catalog of old content for the Star Wars franchise. Disney threw their hat into the streaming ring with a now fan-favorite The Mandalorian, which currently has multiple seasons. On top of Mando’s success, they’re also getting to spinoffs.
Then, of course, that brings us to another fan favorite The Clone Wars. Not only has the animated series been a huge success, they’ve also found ways to piece that into their current flagship series The Mandalorian. Even the Clone Wars is getting its own spinoff series The Bad Batch as well as multiple other series coming soon. So why not Marvel?
Right now, it seems like Disney only has plans to bring streaming content to Disney+ as fillers for the MCU. While the shows might stand on their own, they seem to be a stall until the next major film release. Will the MCU fizzle out on the streaming giant or will Disney finally find a show worthy of a second season in their eyes?
