With Both QBs On the Way Out, Should the Packers and Texans Swap QBs?

Jaguars potential qb Deshaun Watson

With the rise in tension between the Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers, it might be time to move on. The same could be said for the Houston Texans and Deshaun Watson. It would take a lot of resources for a team to land either one. Why not simplify the process and let the two swap quarterbacks.

First, the Packers could use a young talent to keep the franchise moving forward. Rodgers has the Packers winning football games and they have a roster full of young talent. Rather than waste the careers of the young talent while they transition to their next quarterback, they should make a move for Deshaun Watson. Sure Jordan Love could come on this year and make an impact, but when it comes to being playoff ready, he’d be out of his league. Even if he develops, he’d still more than likely go up against Tom Brady or Russell Wilson in the playoffs. Both veteran quarterbacks have Super Bowls under their belts and would more than likely eat him alive.

Then there’s the Houston Texans. The Texans need to move on and go into full rebuild mode. Their franchise was left without first-round picks and some of their playmakers have moved on. They traded away DeAndre Hopkins and let JJ Watt move on as well. There’s no way they’ll compete in an already tough division but could use veteran leadership as they transition to their next franchise quarterback. Rodgers would take over a team where he could pretty much have a blank check to do whatever he wanted. He’s growing frustrated in Green Bay and being able to walk in with complete control in Houston would surely give him what he’s not getting in Green Bay.

Neither team wants to move on from their franchise quarterback but at this point, both ought to pull the trigger. Green Bay isn’t doing themselves any favors by dragging this out the same way they did with Brett Favre. Houston isn’t anywhere near competing and if Watson gets cleared, he’ll more than likely be on the move. His stay in Houston was up long before any of these allegations came up. Green Bay would benefit the most from the move, so if the Texans can get creative, then they could make a worthwhile trade.
