Wrestling: The Real Winners of AEW are the Fans
The state of wrestling is great. As of now, you have over 100 promotions with 20 of them being well-known. You have promotions like Impact, Ring of Honor, NJPW, ICW, Evolve, House of Hardcore, PWG, and MLW to name a few. Obviously, the WWE is the biggest one out of them all. While the promotions are stacked, you can add a new one to the list.
As people rung in the New Year, wrestling fans were curious to see where the Elite would be going. It’s worth noting that Cody Rhodes, the Young Bucks, Hangman Page were free agents. Kenny Omega’s contract doesn’t expire until the end of January. However, they made what many people figured was going to happen. On the latest episode of Being the Elite, they would announce the start of AEW, All Elite Wrestling. In addition, Double or Nothing will be the first pay-per-view under the AEW banner. According to Ryan Satin, Cody Rhodes will be the booker of AEW. The Young Bucks and other BTE people will serve as agents. As of this writing, we don’t know when this promotion’s launch date is or any of that.
There’s been talk that AEW will compete with WWE. Personally, I don’t see that happening right away. It’s possible for that to happen down the road, but not now. However, the true winners of this AEW news is the fans. By adding AEW to the mix, wrestling fans have another avenue. You didn’t have many different options of what wrestling you can watch.
Back then you had WWE, WCW, and ECW mainly. Nowadays, you have WWE, ROH, Impact, NJPW, AAA, Shimmer and many others. We may know more about AEW and their first ppv, Double or Nothing, when they have the rally on January 8th at the Jacksonville Jaguars stadium,
