Pro Wrestling: What is the future of Kenny Omega?
As we saw at Wrestle Kingdom 13, Kenny Omega lost his IWGP Heavyweight Belt to Hiroshi Tanahashi. Being that he lost the belt and is no longer associating himself with NJPW, there’s now a major question he needs to answer. Where does Kenny Omega go from here? It seems that the two promotions to make his final list are the WWE and AEW. For the better part of the last couple of years, we usually get rumors circulating of Kenny Omega heading to the WWE. However, AEW is another option for the former IWGP champion.
AEW or All Elite Wrestling is a promotion being started by Kenny’s pals in Cody, the Young Bucks, and Hangman Page. However, the WWE did supposedly offer him a contract that would make him the highest paid wrestler. My only concern with Kenny Omega going to the WWE is will they allow him to have creative control over his character. There is maybe a handful of WWE talent who get creative control over where their character goes. Off the top of mind John Cena, Brock Lesnar, and Daniel Bryan are the only ones who get this shot. We have seen too many guys go from NJPW, Ring of Honor, or Impact to the WWE and lose the creative control they once had.
Regarding AEW, you know he would get a lot of more pull there being that he does know the people running the brand. However, he wasn’t apart of the video that was launched on New Year’s Eve to announce the start of AEW. Due to that, I somehow see Kenny Omega heading for the WWE. But we have no idea on which promotion Kenny Omega is thinking of going to. Only time will tell on what the future of Kenny Omega happens to be.
