Wrestling: The Modern Day Mount Rushmore of Heel Wrestlers
One of the basics when it comes to professional wrestling is heels and babyfaces. You have your good guys and bad guys. However, it seems that the art of being an effective heel wrestler is dying. You have your heel wrestlers in the WWE like Kevin Owens, Samoa Joe, and Seth Rollins as some examples. But as we have seen, they are easy to be a babyface as well.
Through some research, I have compiled a list of the most effective heels in pro wrestling right now
1- Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF)- This one is a no-brainer. When I saw him at Double or Nothing in the Casino Battle Royal, I felt he was going to become a top heel. The second we see him on TV, the AEW crowd boos him big time. When he turned on Cody at Full Gear, the fans were cursing him out. He gets under the skin of everyone. What makes him different is that he isn’t playing a character. Many people have said that what we see on TV is who MJF is.
2- Baron Corbin- In a world of the WWE, he was one of the few that’s great at being a heel. Like MJF, he gets under the skin of the wrestlers and the fans. What did it for Corbin was when he won the King of the Ring Tournament last year. Since then, he has come off more a prick than he did before. He comes in with guys holding him up on a chair.
3- Bully Ray- When Bully Ray was Bubba Ray in WWE, he was an ok heel. When he was Bully Ray in TNA and now in Ring of Honor, he is fantastic as a heel. He pokes at the fans as we saw at the latest Ring of Honor show. He ends up getting under the skin. However, he will put over people of the future. As we have seen at several Final Battle pay-per-view events where he put over guys like Mark Haskins and Flip Gordon.
4- Chris Jericho- I know Jericho is someone who can be both an effective face or heel, but when Jericho is a heel (His current run) is effective. In the few months that AEW Dynamite has been on, he’s done wonders as the top heel. It’s to the point now that you want to see him lose the belt. However, he also helps make stars. Like Bully Ray, he adds credibility to the wrestlers who he is putting over. We have seen him put over guys recently like Scorpio Sky and Jungle boy. When he eventually has the match with Jon Moxley, he will make him a bigger star than he already is. I know we are only looking at his AEW run, but every Jericho heel run has been great.
Let us know who would make up your Mount Rushmore of modern heels.
