WWE: It would be nice to have the Rock back, but not at the expense of the current roster
It has been reported that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been interested in making his in-ring return to the WWE at WrestleMania 35. The last WrestleMania match that the Rock had was at WrestleMania 32 when he defeated Eric Rowan in six seconds. He has become one of the biggest superstars to make a name for himself outside of the WWE. While it would be neat to see him back in a WWE ring, I don’t agree with the idea.
Since WrestleMania 27, the WWE has brought in a part-timer for their biggest event. For 27-29, it would be the Rock, 30 saw the return of Batista, 31 saw the debut of Sting, 32 saw Triple H, 33 saw both Goldberg and Brock Lesnar, and 34 saw Brock Lesnar. I understand to an extent why the WWE is still doing this. Guys like the Rock, Sting, and Triple H still bring a name value to the brand. However, I feel it is getting to the point already. Between both Raw and Smackdown, you have talented superstars who should be in the main event scene heading into the company’s biggest event. However, the WWE feels that they can’t attract the large audience with AJ Styles, Finn Balor, Cesaro, and others.
Due to that, some of those guys are stuck in the mid-card and it is pathetic. The WWE has to stop relying on the past and start building towards the future. You won’t have guys like the Rock, Triple H, and Undertaker to rely on forever. You will get to the point that you will need to turn to your current roster. Guys like Cesaro, Nakamura, and others who are floating in the mid-card. It would be cool to see the Rock back in the ring, but not at the expense of your current crop who are trying to build their legacies.
