WWE: It’s too early to have the Fiend challenge for the Universal title
We found out on Raw on Monday that the Fiend (Bray Wyatt) will be challenging the winner of Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman at Hell in a Cell. It’s worth noting that Rollins and Strowman are set to work double duty at Clash of Champions. They are set to defend the Raw Tag titles against Bobby Roode and Dolph Ziggler. In addition, they will be taking on each other for the Universal title.
While it’s nice to see the Fiend challenge for the Universal title, personally I feel it’s too early in his run to have him go for the title. One of the things that people said about Bray Wyatt before he adopted the Fiend gimmick was that the WWE was misusing him. I get the fact that he the most over superstar in the WWE, but he has only had one match since he returned. He has had appearances. If I were booking it, I would have waited a bit longer. Hypothetically speaking, let’s say Braun Strowman does win the belt at Clash of Champions. By the logic of having Wyatt challenge at HIAC, Strowman would then be a transitional champion.
There are several superstars on Raw who need the Universal title. Some of them include Braun Strowman, Drew McIntyre, Samoa Joe, and Cesaro are a few that come to mind. If you make someone like Strowman a transitional champion, then you are continuing to destroy any credibility that he has. If I were booking the rest of 2019 and early 2020 in regards to the Universal title, here is how I would do it. For starters, I’d have Strowman defeat Rollins indecisive fashion. Then, I’d have Strowman go on a run where he is destroying everyone. While you continue to build Strowman, you can continue to build the Fiend. I’d have it set for them to collide at the Royal Rumble. However, I’d find a stretch it out to WrestleMania 36.
