WWE: Mauro Ranallo is one of the best play-by-play guys right now
When you are watching WWE, ROH, NJPW, CZW, or any wrestling promotion, there is one thing that any viewer would like. In addition to the wrestlers working well in the ring, they would like the announcers to tell a good story. They want them to show emotion in a high profiled match. As of now, there is only one guy who I say can put anything over and that is Mauro Ranallo of NXT.
Mauro Ranallo has been apart of the WWE since the end of 2016. When they first brought him in they had him on the main roster. In fact, he was the leading play-by-play guy for Smackdown Live. This ended up not working out and there has been no concrete reason for why he ended up leaving.
After a few months of being off of WWE TV, Mauro Ranallo would return as the leading play-by-play man for NXT. So far it has been a work of art to see what he has done with the NXT brand. For example, we saw an epic match between Almas and Johnny Gargano at NXT Takeover Philadelphia. I feel part of the reason for why the match has had a lot of praise is a cause of the way Mauro called the match. He put a ton of emotion into that match with the slew of false finishes.
We don’t see that type of work in many promotions. In TNA/Impact Wrestling or whatever they are called now, Josh Mathews is a good play-by-play guy. However, he doesn’t sell a match well like Mauro does. I feel Mauro doesn’t get enough credit for what he does. When it is all set and done, I feel him and Nigel are helping Percy Watson out a lot. It is fun to watch NXT to hear how Mauro will call matches.
