WWE: NXT has a new home
As AEW is set to begin their TV show on October 2nd, the wrestling universe was waiting to see how WWE would counter program them. While AEW held Fight for the Fallen, WWE ended up putting on an Evolve show. When AEW first was brought up, they weren’t looking at going to war with Raw or Smackdown, that’s why they took Wednesday nights.
However, many people figured Vince McMahon wouldn’t sit their and just all AEW to have Wednesday Nights. No one expected Raw to move and Smackdown is already heading to Fox come October, so Vince had one more trick up his sleeve. It was announced on Tuesday that NXT, the WWE’s developmental brand, will begin airing on the USA network on September 18th. This is two weeks before AEW begins their TV show. In addition, to going to the USA network, it was also announced that NXT will be live two hour show. Since this version of NXT started, it has always been one hour. The Takeover specials have been two hours. According to the announcement, the Takeovers will remain the same.
Some other notes include that the replay of NXT will happen on the WWE Network at 8pm on Thursdays and will still be from Full Sail University. According to Dave Meltzer, the reason why USA Network got the right to air NXT and not FS1 is a rather simple one. The feeling is that wrestling fans will equate wrestling to USA Network more than FS1. The feeling is that UFC is still thought of for FS1.
If you read a lot of the feeling among the wrestling community, this is a petty move by the WWE. This move was done for the sole purpose that Vince McMahon is an ego driven person who won’t back down from a fight.
As someone who is a wrestling fan, this is a great move because it gives us more wrestling on during the week. In the end, the wrestling fans end up wining.
Tune into the Comeback Wrestling Show as the guys give you their take on this move and look at it from both WWE and AEW.
