WWE: “The Outlaw” Ron Bass passes away at the age of 68
It seems that 2017 has not been fair to the wrestling industry. Two months into 2017 we have lost such legends as George “The Animal” Steele, Ivan Koloff, Jimmy Snuka, Nicole Bass, and others. Unfortunately, you can now add someone else to that list as it was reported last night that “The Outlaw” Ron Bass has passed away at the age of 68 after he was admitted to the hospital last week with a burst appendix.
He began his wrestling career in 1971 in the Gulf Coast territory, primarily in the National Wrestling Alliance territories. Then, in the early 1980’s, he would end up beginning to work for Florida Championship Wrestling and Jim Crockett Promotions. The most famous feud he had while working for Jim Crockett Promotions was with his tag partner, Barry Windham. He would end up staying on the independent scene until 1987 when he would go to the WWF. Right off the back he would challenge the likes of Hulk Hogan and Brutus Beefcake. However, over time he would end up finding his footing in the mid-card.
While he was in the mid-card of the WWF, he would end up feuding with the likes of Hillbilly Jim, Lanny Poffo, and Sam Houston. One of his accomplishments would come early in his WWF run when he would be part of the first ever Survivor Series team in 1987. He would also be one of the participants in the first Royal Rumble. He would end up retiring from in-ring action in 1991 after he suffered various injuries in his career.
In July of 2016, he was involved in the class action lawsuit against the WWE that was being done by a lot of the former performers. In their claim, the WWE concealed the constant injuries that the wrestlers were receiving. He would end up winning many titles in the NWA and the AWA.
We at the Inscriber Magazine send our prayers to the family of Ron Bass.
