WWE: Roman Reigns and two Hollywood actors linked to steroids
This is not groundbreaking news for professional wrestling. It seems that for a bulk of the time, there seems to a WWE Superstar, Roman Reigns linked to or accused of using steroids. There was a case brought up against the WWE in the 1990’s that thought they were pushing for the wrestlers to use this drug. However, it seems now that one of the top guys in the company is linked to steroid company based in Miami, Florida.
According to Forbes, jailed steroid distributor, Richard Rodriguez names, WWE Superstar Roman Reigns as a possible client. He was the owner of the Miami based Wellness Fitness Nutrition LLC. Authorities raided this last February to conclude a yearlong investigation. Although this has somehow been able to stay under the radar, experts are saying that this company is on the same level as the Bay Area Laboratory Co-operative (BALCO). Back in the early 2000’s, there was a link of several high-level baseball players to BALCO. Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds just to name a couple. According to the US Attorney Office, WFN has a list of about 50 customers within the Eastern District of New York. They are also reporting that this ring was able to make $10 million in distribution.
It is worth that Richard Rodriguez is currently in jail. He recently presented the list of customers that had three interesting names on it. In addition to WWE Superstar Roman Reigns, the report also names actors Josh Duhamel and Mark Wahlberg. TMZ even reported this as well. Roman Reigns will defend his IC title on the WWE’s RAW 25th show from the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York. Wrestling fans know that Brooklyn is an Anti-Reigns area and this news won’t make it pleasant for him.
In the summer of 2016, WWE suspended Roman Reigns failing their wellness policy. A report would later come out that he took Adderall, a powerful drug that is usually a prescription for people with ADHD. However, many sports leagues ban its use. It is also worth noting that this isn’t the first time that we are mentioning the WWE and steroids in Florida. Back in 2007, there was the Signature Pharmacy Steroid Ring. This was a bit more involved with the WWE as there were multiple guys linked to the ring.
[JonBlayneAds]Some of the names linked were Randy Orton, Charlie Haas, Edge, Booker T, Shane Helms, Mr. Anderson, and several others. Another name on the list would be Chris Benoit. He actually died in a double-murder suicide. He ended up taking the lives of his wife Nancy and their eight-year-old son Daniel. When the autopsy was complete, doctors discovered anabolic steroids inside Benoit at the time. WWE acted very swiftly when this one came out. They would end up suspending several of the guys mentioned in the report.
The problem with the WWE is that this incident is a bit different. In the 2007 case, you had more mid-carders and it wouldn’t affect the show as badly. This time you have one guy. Also, we have known for some time that he will be the one to main event WrestleMania 34 in April. WWE is planning on making Roman Reigns the top person in the company, once John Cena does retire. It is worth noting that Roman Reigns did issue a statement about these allegations
“I have never heard of Richard Rodriguez or Wellness Fitness Nutritition. I learned from the mistake I made nearly two years ago and paid the penalty for it. Since then, I’ve passed 11 tests as part of WWE’s independent drug testing program.”
According to the WWE website, they require that all talents take a drug test four times per year. In two years, that would only be eight tests. So there have been three tests done because the WWE suspected something. I am curious to see how they handle this case. Also, will WWE suspend Reigns again? It would be tough to suspend someone who is set to main event his fourth straight WrestleMania. Especially, since he has been on the main roster.
