WWE: Roman Reigns Should Not Drop the Universal Title at Hell in a Cell
We are less than ten days away from WWE’s Hell in the Cell. In what will probably be the main event, Roman Reigns will be defending his Universal Title against Braun Strowman in the Hell in a Cell structure. The way we got to this point was Braun Strowman walked into Raw General Manager Baron Corbin’s office. He is using his Money in the Bank briefcase to get this match.
While many people are hoping to see Braun Strowman walk out of the structure with the Universal Title, it wouldn’t make any sense from a storyline aspect. The WWE has pushed for some time to get the Universal belt off of Brock Lesnar. It wouldn’t make sense to have Roman Reigns drop the belt less than a month after he won it. There’s another reason having Roman Reigns drop the Universal belt at Hell in a Cell would be a bad idea. Since the WWE introduced the Universal Title, they have treated it like a joke. It was treated like an actual belt when Kevin Owens was holding the belt. I can’t throw Finn Balor into that mix because he only held it for a day. When you had Goldberg defeat Kevin Owens at Fastlane 2017, the belt started to lose credibility. It really sunk in credibility when Brock Lesnar ended up defeating Goldberg at WrestleMania 33.
In the 500 + day reign of holding the Universal Title, Brock Lesnar didn’t defend the title a lot. This caused the belt to lose the rest of the credibility. If I were booking it, I would keep the belt on Roman Reigns to restore the credibility lost during the Brock Lesnar reign. If there were a time to have him drop the belt, I could see something possible happening at the Royal Rumble.
