WWE Rumors: Could Crown Jewel be Canceled?
The WWE may be facing a problem. On November 2, they are set to hold another pay-per-view over in Saudi Arabia called Crown Jewel and the card is starting to take shape. AJ Styles will face Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship. Roman Reigns is set to defend his Universal title against Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman. The problem they are facing is that there is growing pressure to cancel the event and retract the contract amid the Jamal Khasshoggi investigation.
Jamal Khasshoggi is a journalist in Saudi Arabia. He happens to be very critical of the regime that is currently running the country. Officials in the United States have intercepted plans to lure him to Saudi to detain him. The reason why Jamal Khasshoggi is coming up is that he has been missing for the last week. However, it’s worth noting that he disappeared moments after visiting the Saudi consulate in Istanbul to get wedding papers.
The fear is that he was killed at the consulate. As of this writing, the Saudi’s are denying any involvement in his disappearance. However, Turkish officials are under the notion that something might have gone wrong during a botched kidnapping. It’s worth mentioning that there isn’t any evidence to indicate the status of the journalist.
This sudden disappearance of the journalist affects the WWE in a major way. It is expected that there an investigation is being done to try and locate the journalist. It’s worth mentioning that it will not be done quickly and will take time. With the WWE set to perform in Saudi Arabia on November 2, this might cause a problem. However, if he was killed and no one was caught, this would put the WWE superstars in danger.
There’s also been a ton of backlash from the WWE fans as the women aren’t allowed to perform on this card. While I don’t suspect the WWE to rescind the contract, I could see them looking at this event to hire security.
Indeed, this will be interesting to see how it all pans out over the next couple of weeks.
