WWE Rumors: Main reason why John Cena didn’t fight the Undertaker at Wrestlemania 33
Wrestlemania 33 has come and gone.
One of the matches that the WWE universe was expecting to see is John Cena fight the Undertaker at the biggest stage for professional wrestling. However, that didn’t happen and we got Roman Reigns defeating the Undertaker at Wrestlemania. It is now being reported why WWE pulled the Cena/Undertaker match and placed Cena in the mixed tag match with his fiance Nikki Bella against the Miz and Maryse.
[Jon]Cagesideseats is reporting that the WWE felt it would be a bigger moment for John Cena to propose to his girlfriend Nikki Bella than fighting the Undertaker. If this true, then it would also go hand in hand with the comments of WWE wanting Undertaker to “put over”a younger talent in his farewell match . John Cena does not fight that criteria as he is an established star who has been in the WWE for the last fifteen years.
Unfortunately, the lasting memory of Wrestlemania was the Undertaker retiring and not John Cena proposing to Nikki Bella, in my opinion. I have said it before that WWE was pushing for the proposal as a way to attract the main stream media and the casual fans.
Don’t get me wrong, I totally agree with putting over a younger talent. However, I would have had Undertaker put over someone who hasn’t had their Wrestlemania moment. Unfortunately, Roman Reigns doesn’t fit that as he has main evented the last two Wrestlemania pay-per-events. While John Cena is no where near a young talent, I would of rather wanted to see him fight the Undertaker in his final match.
When it comes to the Wrestling world, you will hear people say the term fantasy matches. The idea of having John Cena fight the Undertaker would defiantly be one of those fantasy matches that personally I would have love to seen.
This is just a rumor and should be taken with a grain of salt
