WWE Rumors: Takeovers to be held on same night as AEW major shows
As of now, it’s the calm before the storm in regards to the Wednesday Night Wars between AEW and NXT. Since AEW has been around, they have held four events. They have held Double or Nothing, Fyter Fest, Fight for the Fallen, and All Out. For many of those events, the WWE has scheduled some sort of program. Either it was a house show or a takeover or even put Evolve onto counter program Fight for the Fallen.
The speculation is that this will be the norm. According to Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats, he is speculationing that WWE will air Takeovers on the same nights as AEW airs their pay-per-views. This comes on the heels on the news that there will be no Takeover during Royal Rumble weekend. The WWE will instead do another Worlds Collide event. This will feature stars from NXT, NXT UK, and 205 Live. While nothing official has been made that there is real competition between WWE and AEW, once Vince McMahon sniffs that you will do better he will attack. If this is true that WWE plans to air Takeovers on the same night that AEW airs their pay-per-views, there will be something worth interesting to see. Will AEW continue to put on events that feel special for people to shell out 50.00 or just turn on Takeover for a more affordable show.
Personally, I don’t think it changes anything. As of now, we only know that AEW has Double or Nothing, All Out, and Fight for the Fallen as yearly events. If they add one more and keep it at four, I feel wrestling fans will still shell out the money to see it. While NXT is the closest thing to AEW as it’s the wrestlers show, I don’t think AEW will change that much.
This is a rumor and should be taken with a grain of salt.
