WWE Rumors: WrestleMania could be on Network TV soon
WrestleMania has been a staple in the WWE since it’s inception in 1985. Since the first one happening in the Garden, it has become the Super Bowl or the World Series of the professional wrestling world. It usually takes over a city for a week and does very well for the city. Since it’s inception, you could only view it either if you ordered it on pay-per-view or now with the WWE Network. However, it seems now that may be changing in the future.
According to Ringside News, the WWE is now open to the idea of selling the broadcasting rights of WrestleMania to TV. This has its positives and negatives. One of the first positives that should be looked at is now you will get more eyes on the product. As of now, the WWE Network has around 2 million subscribers. Let’s say that FOX gets the broadcasting rights to WrestleMania. Fox ended up getting a couple of million viewers at a time. If we put WrestleMania in line with the Super Bowl, it would be a win for the network. However, this would beg a question worth asking. If the WWE goes this route by putting their pay-per-views on broadcasting TV, then what was the point of the network. When the WWE Network was first introduced, it was made for showing pay-per-views.
However, this shouldn’t come as a shocker to people. We have seen part of the kickoff show on USA channel for WrestleMania in the last couple of years. In addition, the WWE has become more for the mainstream fan and less about the hardcore fans. If they cared about the hardcore fans then they wouldn’t even be talking about this idea. Personally, I am curious to see how this whole thing happens and will we see more World Wrestling Entertainment pay-per-views on broadcasting TV.
