WWE: The Main Event of NXT Takeover should be…………
In a week from Sunday, the WWE will descend onto New Orleans, Louisiana for Takeover, WrestleMania, Raw, and Smackdown. Since the WWE has been doing the Takeover shows, they have been some of the best shows in the entire weekend. We have seen either in-ring debuts or crowd debuts of several talents like Shinsuke Nakamura, Bobby Roode, Ricochet, and others. It’s worth mentioning that we have not had a takeover main event not be for a title. I clearly see one match on this card that should get the honor of main eventing Takeover.
I don’t see one bad match on the card. Nonetheless, if there was one match that should be the main event is Johnny Gargano going up against his former friend and tag team partner Tomaso Ciampa. After Ciampa turned on Gargano at Takeover Chicago last year, it became a foregone conclusion that they were heading into a program. However, Ciampa was put on the shelf for the rest of 2017 with a leg injury. Thus, after Gargano and Almas had their five-star match three months ago, Gargano was walking up the ramp with his wife, Candice LeRae, and Ciampa attacked him.
In fact, this feud has been one of the highlights in the build-up to Takeover New Orleans. Consequently making Gargano an ultra-baby face and Ciampa a major heel. The booking for this program has been great. I don’t see a reason why these two shouldn’t main event Takeover. I know the main event is left for a title match, but when you have so much investment in this feud, have them go up last.
Here is how I would arrange the confirmed matches
- NXT Woman’s Title match between Ember Moon and Shayna Baszler
- Six-man ladder match for the North American title
- NXT Championship between Almas and Black
- NXT Tag team match
- Johnny Gargano vs. Tommaso Ciampa
