WWE: The Wild Card has not helped the product
The WWE has seen the ratings drop lately. While there have been a ton of speculations, the biggest reason is how creative and booking has been done. This lead Vince McMahon to try something new. He appeared on Raw and the Wild Card Rule was born. When it was originally born, the intention was for three to four superstars from Raw to appear on Smackdown and vice versa.
In the first couple of weeks, it seems that the Wild Card rule has been just having the same guys appear on both shows. It seems that we get Roman Reigns, Lars Sullivan, Drew McIntyre, Shane McMahon, and a few others. This has essentially taken spots away from other stars. It’s been weeks since the Viking Raiders, Eric Young, Harper, and your Raw Tag team champions in Hawkins and Ryder.
If I were WWE, I would consider getting rid of this stupid rule. There is nothing that has been positive of this, except you are giving the 24/7 title more TV time. However, if you didn’t treat the other belts like trash, then this wouldn’t be bad. As far as the “Wild Card” rule goes, it’s done nothing for the product. Personally, it comes off to me as a way for creative to have guys appear without having to explain it.
This is wishful thinking, but there should have been a rotating stipulation put in to help this rule. If you appeared the first week, then you would not be allowed to appear apart of the rule for a few weeks. My reasoning is that this would give other stars a shot to shine in the spotlight. We don’t need Roman Reigns on TV every single Raw.
