WWE: Undertaker needs to retire
I would like to begin this by saying that I am a massive fan of the Undertaker. His whole character/gimmick is different and unique. However, the Undertaker that was in the main event of the Super Showdown in Jeddah, Saudia Arabia on Friday is a shell of himself.
Undertaker is someone who has been a part of the WWF/WWE since Survivor Series 1990. Since his debut at Survivor Series in 1990, the Undertaker has gone on to win several titles. Some of the belts he won include the WCW and WWE Tag belts, The World Heavyweight title, the Hardcore belt, The Undisputed Championship, and won the 2007 Royal Rumble. While he has all of those on his wrestling resume, he is also known for going 21-0 at the WWE’s WrestleMania.
There have been a few moments when it was right for Undertaker to retire. One of the earliest ones would be after we had the End of an Era match between him and Triple H. After that after he lost the streak to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 30. Since his streak ended, we get Undertaker only a few times a year. We can look at Wrestlemania 34 when he took on John Cena. He wasn’t the same guy.
The Undertaker we get once a year is ok if we get someone who he can work with. In addition, they need to carry the match. We can not have him work with someone who can’t carry a match. At the Super Showdown, Goldberg was not able to carry the match. At this point in Undertaker’s career, that can’t happen anymore. I’m hoping that Undertaker has maybe one or two more proper matches and then calls it a career. I wouldn’t want his match against Goldberg or Roman Reigns or John Cena to be his final match.
