WWE: The Undertaker’s “retirement” from in-ring action was bad
The wrestling world is getting hyped for Starrcast 2 in May. It was reported that WWE legend, Undertaker, will be appearing at the event. This is been causing a lot of talk among the wrestling community because this is the first “active” WWE superstar to appear at Starrcast. It’s also worth mentioning that Undertaker’s contract as a wrestler with the WWE has expired. This is according to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer.
If it is true that we won’t see the Undertaker perform in a WWE ring again, then the WWE really screwed up his final match. The Undertaker’s last official match was at Crown Jewel when he teamed with Kane to take on Triple H and Shawn Michaels. A match that in my opinion sucked and should have happened 10 years ago. You had five different opportunities where it would have made it better to have Undertaker retire. Most recently, when he lost to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 33. He even took off the robe and hat afterward. You could have done it after he defeated Brock Lesnar at Battleground to avenge the WrestleMania 30 lost. WrestleMania 30 was another spot when the streak came to an end. You can also look at either his match with Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 26 or Triple H at WrestleMania 27.
In this modern era, Undertaker is one of the WWE’s pioneers and the WWE isn’t giving him a proper send-off. I truly hope by his contract expiring that we see him inducted into the Hall of Fame this year. It would be rather stupid to not put him in at this point. If it wasn’t for Undertaker, most of the modern day of wrestling would be different. To be honest, if the Undertaker didn’t have the streak, would WrestleMania be as big as it has become. The Undertaker’s streak became a major part of WrestleMania.
