WWE: Who’s to blame for the decline in the product?
The WWE has been the top of the wrestling world for a number of years. In the 1990’s, the WWE had WCW and ECW who would be competition for the WWE. Come 2001, both WCW and ECW closed and became owned by WWE. For almost two decades, the WWE has not had any sort of competition. Now in 2019, the landscape of professional wrestling has changed.
Now you have AEW, Impact, Ring of Honor, NJPW, WOW Wrestling, MLW, and NWA Power are just some of the companies around now. The WWE has seen a steady decline in the ratings and people have been complaining about it for some time. While you don’t want to poke the fingers, it seems that is all that fans have been doing. You get some people who blame talent like Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, and Becky Lynch to name a few. Others blame creative and Vince McMahon. They put it that Vince McMahon is out of touch with the product. This seems to be one of the longest running discussions within the wrestling world.
Now my take is not going to shock people. If i were to point the finger at anyone would be creative. They are the ones who are booking what we see on TV. The superstars are going out there and are being told what to do. People forget that the WWE is in more the entertainment. When you look at an Raw episode, how much actually wrestling are you getting? I can assure you that it isn’t a full three hours. Why do you think shows like AEW Dynamite, NWA Power, or NXT are doing great, it’s because they are more wrestling and less soap operas. Raw has more of a soap opera feel because of creative.
