WWE: Why Keith Lee should win the 2020 Royal Rumble
As of this writing, we are a few weeks away from the 2020 Royal Rumble. It’s one of the companies biggest pay-per-views because it means we are on the road to WrestleMania. As we have seen in past years, the winner of the Rumble match gets a title shot at WrestleMania. There has been a lot of people saying everyone from Almas to Drew McIntyre to a returning CM Punk. However, it seems that there’s been no one saying anyone from NXT.
Personally, I would love to see WWE give an NXT superstar a win at the Royal Rumble. WWE has not created a new star since the Attitude Era. Over the last several years, the WWE has relied heavily upon the stars from the Attitude Era. The argument I always make is that the guys from that era are not getting younger. At some point, WWE will need to start using the future for big spots like winning the Rumble. Now, when it comes to who from NXT should win it, the list is rather large. It’s also worth noting that you can easily make the case for every one of them.
Some of the names that come to mind include Matt Riddle, Dominik Dijakovic, Adam Cole, Rodrick Strong, Kyle O’Reilly, and others. But the one that makes the most sense is not even on that list. I’m talking about Keith Lee. Lee has been with WWE since 2018. The first time many WWE fans saw him was during WrestleMania Axxess weekend. He’s becoming one of the fan favorites of NXT and if used properly, could be a top-level star in the WWE.
If Keith Lee is apart of the future plans, why not give him a Rumble win. However, I wouldn’t have him challenge for the NXT title at Mania. If I were the one booking this, I would have him appear on the Raw after the Rumble to open the show by cutting a promo. In that promo, I would have him say that he is setting his sights on one belt and it’s bigger than the NXT title. I would have him go for the WWE title and defeat Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 36.
