The WWE pre-recorded Raw because of it being Christmas Eve. However, on this Christmas Eve episode, they had Vince McMahon dressed up in Santa to deliver a few announcements. He started off by saying that John Cena will be on both Raw and Smackdown come the new year. In addition, we will see Drew McIntyre take on Dolph Ziggler in a steel cage next week. However, the biggest announcement of all came when he said that we will finally see the reboot of the Women Tag team belts.

The WWF had Women Tag belts from May 13,1983-February 13, 1989. In its short run, there were only five teams who held the belts. They would include The Glamour Girls (2x), Velvet McIntyre and Desiree Peterson, Velvet McIntyre and Princess Victoria, and the Jumping Bomb Angels. There has been talking for several years, but nothing was official. While I am all in favor of the women having a tag belt, I have a few issues with how it was presented. I will never understand why they would make this announcement on a show where not many people would be watching. If I were the WWE, you could have sent out a tweet or something saying that stay tuned to our first live episode of 2019 as we have a major announcement to make. In addition, why do these now? The most opportune time you could have done this was at Evolution. You could have introduced the idea at Summerslam. This would have given you a solid couple of weeks that would have led to the finals happening at Evolution.

Since no date was announced to when these belts would be shown, it would lead me to think that we have new Women tag team champions heading out of WrestleMania. If it were me, I’d introduce the belts at the Royal Rumble or Elimination Chamber. Then in the weeks to come, have a tournament similar to the Mixed match challenge. Some names I could see in this tournament would include the Riott Squad, Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch, Bayley and Sasha Banks, or how about Trish Stratus and Lita.

Let us know in the comments below who you would like to see be crowned the new WWE Women’s tag team champions in 2019.
